Contact noise occurs when vibrations travel through a building’s structure into other spaces—for example, footsteps, falling objects, or moving chairs.
To minimize the impact of these sounds, contractors and architects use a floating screed placed on an acoustic underlay with side strips. This ensures that the screed does not touch the underlying layer directly, while the acoustic underlay and side strips absorb the vibrations.
Expansion joints, also called dilatation profiles, are installed at doorways, stairs, and large screeds to prevent cracking. The elastic polyethylene (PE) foam allows the screed to expand safely, avoiding damage to the layer.
SAPRONIT has also developed Acoustic Foam® Corners. These interior and exterior PE corners help eliminate gaps and reduce the risk of the screed making contact with the underlying filling or concrete layer.

Proud to be a sustainable leader in our field, we’ve been committed to the cause from our very beginnings. From launching our world-first 100% recyclable padded bag to developing
a group-wide waste-free cradle-to-cradle’ approach, sustainability is at the heart of every decision we make.
So how exactly do we do what we do, sustainably?
Because we’re 100% committed to what we call our ‘circular economy’ and ‘cradle-to-cradle’ products – which basically means that none of our waste ends up in the incinerator or landfill. In fact, we have no waste. Everything is reused. And we do this in two main ways.
